Did You Know? BHT Edition

Are you managing your EU inventory of products containing BHT? Have you heard? While products containing the old levels of BHT could not be shipped into the EU after July 1, 2023, they must be removed from the shelf as of January 1, 2024. The UK has just passed their regulations on BHT - see the comparison below. 

EU: Maximum permissible use level in mouthwash is 0.001%. Maximum permissible use in toothpaste is 0.1%. Maximum permissible use in all other products is 0.8%.  EU Commission Regulation 2022/2195

UK: Maximum permissible use level in toothpaste is 0.1%. Maximum permissible use level in mouthwash and leave-on oral care products is 0.001%. Maximum permissible use level in all other cosmetic products is 0.8%. The implementation date is January 16, 2024. Noncompliant products may not be shipped into the UK after October 6, 2024. Removal of products from commerce that are not in compliance with the new levels is February 6, 2025.
